Details on Ron Berry's 470 Mbogo
Action: Bauska BBK-02, marked "Bauska Kalispell MT" on left side of receiver. 3.5# trigger pull weight. Nice big bolt sticking out there for rapid action. Three position M70 type safety. 3 down in the box and one up in the chamber, with room to spare, but not quite enough room for four 470 Mbogo cartridges down in the box.

Barrel: Pac-Nor stainless N0. 6 contour sporter, 16" twist, 6 groove, 25" long, ~0.750" at muzzle. Secondary recoil lug on barrel.

Stock: Boyd laminate that has been reinforced everywhich way: 4 cross bolts, one in forearm and three in action area. Also a 1/2" axial bolt through grip, and grip covered with "textured epoxy" and generous relief at tang. Lightning bolt checkering pattern on left and right side of forearm, epoxy inlay of cape buffalo skull/horns and Hammer of Thor on right side of forearm, overlying lightning bolt checkering. Clear epoxy coating over everything that is not otherwise covered with epoxy bedding, inside and out. 1" Pachmayr Decelerator pad. 14" LOP. This is a fun and indestructible stock, but a McMillan would be nice, though lighter in weight, and a mixed blessing that would be. Without the scope it balances on the front action screw, just as I like. With the scope, the lighter McMillan would make it balance better. The stock is great for express sights as is. I can also remove the standing leaf rear sight (Dakota, leaf dovetails into island) and use an NECG receiver sight on the rear scope base.

Tally barrel band sling swivel base.

Open Sights: Dakota express sight rear, single standing leaf, flat topped with square notch filed in. NECG banded front sight with gold 3/32" square post and hood.

Scope bases are Virgin Valley steel to fit the Leupold QRW lever rings, low height (the new ones with the square recoil shoulder on the bottom of each ring). Very smooth and low profile. Four 8X40 screws and Loctite hold down the two-piece bases. Square bridges were drilled and tapped. I know, plebeian, but I like it.

2.5X Leupold scope with standard dupex reticle.

10.75 pounds without scope.

I have gotten 2685 fps with 500 grain Barnes Originals, but settled on a more comfortable load with 500 grain Barnes XLC bullets at about 2550 fps, and excellent accuracy. RL-15.

This rifle is tight and solid as can be, and the cartoonish stock is fun. Yes, I did the stock bedding and "finishing."

That is probably more than you wanted to know about "My 470 Mbogo." Thanks for creating the cartridge.
